Group Autumn Update 2026

Hey all,

Welcome to the Autumn update for the 61st Wincobank Scout Group! Before we tell you about what we got up to over the summer, there’s just a quick update regarding the Beaver Section.

We were looking to split out Beaver and Cub sections up again at the start of the school year however we are going to keep the sections merged until the new year, potentially until around March 2027. This is due to the availability of leaders for a Tuesday evening at this time. If we have any updates around this, we will let parents know! The number of members in Beavers has jumped up over the summer, but spaces are still available!

At the end of June and the start of July, the group was out using the HQ’s garden a lot more, with tent pitching, den building and fire lighting. The Scouts also held a treasure hunt in Sheffield – Thanks to Mark for organising this!

Towards the end of July we held our taster session, which was open to the public to showcase some of what we get up to at the 61st. It was a great evening with some new faces and good conversations! A massive thank you to the leaders and young leaders that helped bring the day together!

In the run up to Summer Camp in August, the group were making the most of the warm weather with a few trips to the local park and field for some none-stop-cricket, water games, and brushing up on some Scout skills, before heading to Woodhall Spa camp site for camp!

This year’s Summer Camp was at Boston District’s Scout camp site and a new one to the 61st. As well as being a great site, the group were treated to an actual plumbed in kitchen on our pitch! Alongside the usual mix of bivvy building, wide games and activities on camp, the group were able to visit both the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, as well as a tour and talk at RAF Coningsby – Huge thank you to Richard for organising this years camp!

If you are a parent or carer of a current member at the group, there is a load more photos on our private Facebook group. Please ask your section leaders if you haven’t been invited!

As the nights have started to get a little colder and darker, the Beavers and Cubs have been focusing on badge work, doing weekly hobby sharing talks, looking at road and home safety, and doing some map work and using compasses.

Towards the end of the month, the Scouts section were back at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre for more air rifle shooting, which works towards their ‘master at arms’ badge!

It’s been a busy few months for the group but it’s been a tonne of fun for the members and the leaders too – Thank you so much for reading, and see you again for the Winter update!

Yours in Scouting,
The 61st Leadership team
