Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
It’s time for the quarterly update – The group is currently closed for the festive period, with sessions starting again on 08/01/2025 with the Scouts
So what have we had on for the last few months?
The District Beaver Sleepover this year was held at Gulliver’s Valley Resort in Rotherham in mid October. Groups from around Don District came out for a weekend of games, rides and fun. The members had full access to the park and rides, and the trip included a tour around the zoo, a movie night, and an adventure around the dinosaur area!

The group had a few nights of Halloween games and decorations making alongside pumpkin carving – The group came together at the end of the month for a Troop Halloween Night! Members all came in fancy dress for a evening of games and food – the yearly classic of apple bobbing and ‘find the sweet in the bowl of flour’ providing more entertainment for the leaders than the children…

Scouts once again bringing home gold from the Outdoor Cooking Competition this year in late October – Well done to the members for bringing home the trophy once more!

The group once again were able to see the Sheffield Steelers play at home at the Utilita Arena in November against Dundee – sadly a loss for the home team, but a great day out for the group and parents, enjoyed by all! Thank you Richard again for pulling this together!

The Leaders annual support of the Wincobank Village Hall charity quiz night in November went better this year with CSL Graham coming in third place, with the rest of the leaders and partners cheering him on (seriously, Graham answered 90% of the questions, we might as well have not turned up!)

Into December the group was getting festive… or Nordic, depending on the week. The Cubs had a night of cake decorating, and the Beavers making wreaths; whilst all sections have otherwise been preparing for the Up Helly Aa celebration for the group which will take place early next year – making helmets, axes and shields.

And to round off the year, the group met at the Wincobank Village Hall for our Christmas Party! Photos will be going up on the private Facebook group soon!
Looking to 2025, we have the Group’s winter sleepover at Hesley Wood in January, the Up Helly Aa celebration in early February, and a full year of adventures ahead!
Thank you everyone for another year of Scouting, and the leadership team are excited to see what the year ahead brings!
Yours in Scouting,
Alex James – 61st Wincobank BSL
