Hey all,
Just wanted to give a quick update from the group as to what we have been up to over the summer season, and what we have coming up this year!
We opened up with the annual group camp to Silverwood Scout Activity Centre in Barnsley back in early June. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts came together for a “back to basics” camps, which focused on team work, problem solving, and a good ol’ bit of fire making. We had glorious weather and a beautiful pitch for the weekend!
All sections had a lot of adventurous plans throughout the rest of June and July – The Beavers asked for a litter pick of our local woods, Cubs had nights of den building in the HQ gardens, and Scouts had a few meeting nights building on practical skills and fire making!
Into August, the group’s Summer Camp was based at quiet camp site in Huddersfield, with the older Cubs and Scouts looking forward to a week of fun!
A mixed week for weather, but the Scouts made the most of the good days with backwoods cooking, scout skills and chanceing calmer nights in hammocks and shelters – A ‘Tarzan Swing’ was also built and thoroughly tested by a Cub Leader before the members had a go themselves. On the damper days, the group headed off site to the National Coal Mining Museum near Wakefield, and the Royal Armories in Leeds
Back at home, the group is slowly settling for the dark nights and prepping for activities we have coming up later this year – And the Scouts did more of what they do best:
The Scouts had a trip one Saturday in Sepetmber to Jump Inc with a walk along the Tinsley Canal to Rotherham (sorry no photos from this one!) – Thank you Mark for organizing this!

The Cubs have the District Scrapheap Challenge today (photos will be posted on the groups Private Facebook page!)
16/10/23 – Light up the Hill, starting at the Wincobank Chapel. An event for the people of Wincobank to look into the history of the area, with a lantern procession through the night
28/10/2023 – Spooktacular – Hosted by Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre, information available here
06/11/2023 – A Viking’s Bonfire Night! All sections have been working on helmets, axes and shields these last few weeks to have our own twist on Bonfire night, for everyone to come together for a night of games!
18/11/2023 – Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants at the Utilita Arena. A massive thank you to the Steelers for inviting us along again!
15/12/2023 – Group Christmas Party at the Wincobank Village Hall, letters to go out closer to the time
We hope our members enjoyed their adventures over the summer, and are looking forward to what we have coming up in the run up to Christmas!
